Frameless Glass Extension Seamlessly Complementing a Thatched Cottage Near Warminster
DESCRIPTION
This exceptional frameless glass extension near Warminster showcases how modern glass architecture can enhance the charm of a traditional thatched cottage. Designed and built to the client’s vision, the L-shaped glass structure measures almost 10 metres by 10 metres and features a glass roof supported on clear structural glass beams with bi-parting sliding glass doors on each elevation.
The client requested a completely frameless design with minimal visible structure and uninterrupted views of the garden. Achieving this level of precision on a period property was a rewarding challenge — the roof panels were meticulously shaped to follow the irregular building profile, fitting neatly just beneath the thatched eaves while maintaining perfect alignment and weatherproofing.
To ensure year-round comfort, solar control glazing was used throughout the roof and vertical walls, reducing glare and heat gain in the sunny south-facing garden. The result is a light-filled modern extension that blends seamlessly with the historic fabric of the cottage, providing a bright, airy living space with panoramic views.
